Does Maxim's screaming get annoying?

Postby Skellz » Mon Feb 08, 2010 5:06 am

I introduced my friend to The Prodigy a while ago and he really enjoys the music. He likes almost all of the tracks I've played him, but when I let him borrow my Their Law CD... He was very put off when he heard Spitfire live. He said the guy screaming (Maxim) really pissed him off and ruined the track.

I told him (from my own experience) that it really works when you're there, it gets the crowd moving.. But he said there's no way in hell that he could go to a Prodigy gig with all the screaming and "terrible added on lyrics".
I don't feel the same way.

I think it works out in the end and makes the gig more energetic. But I want to know what YOU think. Has anyone on this forum shared this same problem? Does anyone else here get tired of Maxim?

I like it, brings another dimension to live performances

maxim's mic-work is as essential to the prodigy live show as any other element. Not naming any names, but a lot of live MC's can sound cheesy and naff in my opinion. Maxim vibes with the music and does not detract or step on it in anyway with a style that unique to him and the prodigy.
Long answer short......no :D

Not really, but it's a shame he doesn't show the same lyrical dexterity he did in the Experience and Jilted days.
A lovely thank you to Mr. W 30, James Jupiter the 8th, Mrs. 303, Mr. 909, and especially Monsieur Akai 1100 (The Earthbound Crew)

Totally agree. A Prodigy live show without Maxim is like eating your cereal without the milk! His energy and ability to whip up the crowd is absolutely quality! Big part of the live experience of The Prodigy! Also agree with Wayne B to a certain extent. I think the newer music just doesnt suit his old wa of Mcing but i definitely agree!
I dont like to see people gettin hurt........... but i like to bring madness and mayhem!- Maxim (Gabba, Phoenix 96')

When my mate was staying over mine for a couple of the RWTW tour dates. He's always loved Maxim and how he commands the stage. However I was playing some old prodge bootlegs from the Jilted/Experience era and he was like 'Maxim, he's a right lazy bastard these days, he just screams, I wish he was this these days'

I've said it before, a bit of variation of his vocal style (like he was doing 15 years ago) would just enhance the show more. It's all it needs. The screaming isn't an issue but be nice for him to vary it a tad.

No, its unique and essential for the energy of the live performance. Although I must admit I would always prefer studio versions over live versions if I'm listening at home

It's not the screaming I can't stand. It's the every second word 'f u c k' or ' f u c k i n g'.
It does my nut in.
