Sometimes I like to play keyboard on my pc and doin some tracks, but never finished them cos of less time. Will spend more time in creatin music in near future, but I guess I don´t have the right software for doin good sounding tracks.

Some months ago there was a prodigy remix competition of another known fansite [I guess some people know which one  ] and I uploaded my remix, but it got some critics like "it sounded too robotic". The critics were authorized but IMO the main problem on this competition was, only uploaders were allowed to vote for a remix and there wasn´t enough time to finalize it. Most people who took part on the competition seems to be proffessionals in music production.

So I dunno what other persons will think of my remix, but I would appreciate help how to reach a better sound which isn´t monotous and robotic like.

The problem i.e. is: If I would create an easy techno beat it sounds monotous/robotic like. If I listen i.e to a techno beat of a common act it isn´t monotonous cos it doesn´t sound like an over and over repeated loop. That´s the problem I have and I dunno if it depends on the software ? I have an option in my software of "quantization" - does it depend of this option maybe ?

Well for drums you just need to vary your loops up a bit. For instance (and this is just a simple example) you could add a couple more kick drum beats to the 2nd and 4th bar, and add a couple snare rolls in there. Just play around with your loops, don't vary it too much, it still has to fit within the tune and also compliment the other loops. It's good to make your own loops but if your struggling don't be ashamed to add a premade drum loop. You could even play around with the premade loops, cutting and pasting bits you like. If your using MIDI for your tunes then it can sound robotic. I personally like every beat and MIDI to be perfectly in time, but if your after a more fluid sound, vary the lengths of some of the notes ever so slightly. You could always hand play it through a MIDI controller which will give it a more "human" feel. As for software, there's loads of free stuff out there you just need to look, you don't necessarily have to have loads of money to make good music. If your really skint and after a good piece of software there's always pirate downloads. I know it's not a particularly good thing to pirate software, but at the end of the day if it's gonna further your hobby/career then it's a minor crime.

Thanks for your reply - so it seems to be way better not doin one short loop and repeat it over and over, so it´s better to do lot of clips and vary them. I will give this a try. Will overwork my remix soon in my vacation along with your hints and maybe I will get a better result. ... thank you
