TOPIC: Pendulum...

Pendulum... 4 years, 6 months ago #22770

I'm really sorry because I know there's a few fans of these guys on here. I was just wondering though, is anyone else tired of Pendulum always being compared to the Prodge?

I'm not a big fan myself. For example, I loved it when someone once said that they were the Scooter of Drum n Bass. But all musical opinions aside, I think they've got no chance of being "the new Prodigy".

What makes Liam different from other acts is his ability to change with the times, more importantly between albums. No other dance act can do this like him, which is why the longevity of the Prodge has been so successful. I can never imagine Pendulum making the slightest attempt at changing something about their music. They're so limited. But a second album later, there's still not a review out there that doesn't mention the Prodge.

you could compare the chemical brothers to the prodge some years back, or even orbital, leftfield etc. on some tracks, but pendulum ?! The Voodoo Ppl remix aside, there is no real musical comparison what.so.ever.

I can't get the sense of the thread. Every man to his taste.
Just because some ppl dislike Pendulum, doesn't mean others should care about this.
And why do we compare Pendulum with Prodigy when their styles differ a lot?

I thought that most of the hatred for Pendulum (esp. @ doa) came about from them changing their sound so much for the second album and moving away from strictly dnb. Some people need to make their minds up and stick to it.

The comparison with The Prodge comes more from their live gigs anyway.

The reason why I don't like them is because of the comments they made when they were miffed at DOA. Childlike reactions to the opinions of a forum. So yeh, they can fuck off. I saw them at Creamfields in August and really don't know what the fuss is
about with their live show. Same riffs, same basslines, same emo vocals, fuck off.

On the other hand, now that Pendulum have rinsed the teeny rave bollocks and producers have realised the synth and bass thing is a pile of shit, D&B is now enjoying a rich vein of form, with a back to 96/97 vibe running through much of the scene. I recommend D-Bridge's Gemini Principle as an example.

By the way, does anyone else find the term nu rave rather objectionable?

I DJ drum and bass, tracks don't all sound the same!!!

But I do not like Pendulum, I bought their first album and liked it back then but then I discovered proper drum and bass.

I don't see how you can compare them with the Prodigy.

And I agree I don't like the term nu rave. I have researched rave culture and think it is silly for people to new call nu rave nu rave. You can't live in the past or try to recreate it!

It was always meant to be tongue in cheek.

Well this will piss you all off then

"Comparisons aside, what’s the likelihood of both bands heading into the studio while they’re in Australia for the Big Day Out tour? “Yeah we hope so, definitely,” Gareth revealed. “That’s something we’re really keen on, to try something for the third album. Whether they’re into the idea, we don’t know yet. Apparently Liam’s up for it. It’ll be good to be on the Big Day Out circuit together and maybe see if we can get something knocked up on the road."

It is hitler music. The klaxons can suck on my balls and I won't be apologetic about that one.

My point is that newspapers and magazines do have this habit with comparing them to the Prodigy. I bought Hold Your Colour on the whole premise that there was a review sticker saying "the new Prodigy are here"... dunno what posessed me, mind. Normally I'm more susceptible to advertising.

not cool!

i do hope Liam will not do anything with pendulum in the future... they've sinked so deep into poop with their second album. the first one was alright, but boring after a dozen of plays.

even if they do collab, i'm sure Liam will make it sound proper and the way it should
