Just wondering, how does having your own label co-exist with distribution?

Wouldn't it be more mutual for fans and the group to go the way of Digital Distribution? As long as an attempt to resolve server issues before release, the fans would be able to scoop up the album a lot earlier.

BTW Trent Reznor went on record as saying he pocketed over $1.6 million the first week of releasing the Ghost albums...

radiohead and nin are not random bands, they have established names, they can afford to make "bold" moves in terms of artist - company - audience relation
i don't know how reznor pocketed 1.6 mil but he's probably the only one who can pull it off

Digital files has got very little value to me though. I wont pay for an mp3 file (or flac or aac or whateverrrr) as long as it can be downloaded for free on google.ru and similar, even though that may be illegal.

Since when has Prodigy become a "random band"?

If a dumb city boy from south Louisiana can be a fan for around 10 years, I think that would file them in the "not random band" category...

There's no debating piracy. It's going to happen either way.

Opinions on the previous DD releases have ranged from views such as yours, to folks (such as myself) who are actually willing to support the artist by paying a reduced price for the same product (not to mention sticking it to major corporate record labels, whom obviously doesn't have the fans best interest at heart).

You are missunderstanding me then. I am willing to pay the artist, but i am not willing to pay for 0s and 1s, as long as i can get the exact same 0s and 1s from thepiratebay or mininova. I want something physical. There is no such thing as a collectible MP3.

let us think now, we got cds for like 20 years now. It was announced as the vinyl killer. Vinyl is still alive, and now mp3 should be the cd killer. To kill the CD, first u need to kill the Vinyl. Noone can say which "format" is going to win, merely there will be the coexistance, because personaly, I have not an mp3 player put still a discman to listen to my cds to (cant be bothered to mp3 my stuff), and I just like cd releases, the pictures, the smell (lol), the letters, something u see first then listen. Besides, how can a band sign its work in digitaly form, so the item gets even more personal?!

Agreed on all points. I to value tangible media, but who says you have to stop with just downloading mp3s?

Couldn't The Prodigy offer not only downloadable media, but additional packages featuring not only the disc(s) but other swag as well?

Limited edition pins, stickers, t-shirts, anything, EVERYHING! whatever... they're only limited to whatever investments allow in distribution....

i didn't say prodigy is a random band, how should i know you were talking specifically about P in the first place ?
but i don't think P can do something like that at this point in their career, with radio and nin there was a lot of buzz about them going on before their "converting" and it helped alot, it didn't work out that well with saul williams for instance

i know what you mean, it's not like we are talking about a dominand medium,
personnaly i think its a cool idea, ghosts worked out well for me since it's also out conventionally on cd vinyls etc
but what people hope for prodigy right now is a comeback, you'r right to ask about this now since their contract with xl has ended but "officially" embracing mp3 would kill them
