Regarding "Is this track real?" topics 6 years, 6 months ago #10633

The question
"Is this track by The Prodigy real?" or "Is this remix really by The Prodigy?" are often heard questions. There are a lot of people who have questions regarding if a certain track is an official track or if a certain track is produced/remixed by The Prodigy. To help out all these people and to create a reference for everyone, I have created two sections on my web site; Tracks and Remixes. By using these two sections on my web site, there is no need anymore to ask if a certain track is real or not, since all tracks are listed here

The answer
Browse to http://www.the-prodigy.org. Click on Tracks for a complete list of all official tracks by The Prodigy. The Remixes section offers a complete list of all official remixes which The Prodigy have done for other artists. If a certain track is not listed in either of these sections, it is not a track by The Prodigy, neither is it a track which is remixed by The Prodigy.

The explanation
When you browse to http://www.the-prodigy.org and click on either Tracks or Remixes, you will be presented with a list which is currently divided into four columns. In the future I would like to add several more columns, such as a year of release, a column for the catalogue number, perhaps a column for some background information, et cetera.

Time
The first column shows the length of each track if known. If the running time of a track is unknown, the first column will show xx:xx. The tracktimes are not copied from the printed record sleeves, but are taken from the actual tracks.

Title
The second column shows the general tracktitle. It does not show the version of the track, this is listed in the next column. The way a trackname is written, is copied from the printed record sleeves where possible. You can click on a trackname to listen to a short sound clip of that specific track and version. You will need RealPlayer to be able to listen to these sound clips.

Version
This column lists the version of a specific track. All different names and versions of a specific track are listed, even if it is only the name of a track which is different. If only the name is different, but the music itself is identical, this will be listed in this column.

Source
The last column shows on which release you can find a specific track in the best possible sound quality. By clicking on the name of the source of a specific track, you will get a small pop up which will list all tracks on this specific release. In the future I will add specific catalogue numbers to each listed source, so that each source can be easily recognized.

Missing tracks
All known official tracks are listed on my web site. There are however a handful of live tracks which you will not find on the list. The reason for this is that not always an official title is known of certain live tracks. Most often these tracks get named by fans. These "fan named" tracks are not listed, as these titles are not official and are simply made up by fans. Official new tracks and remixes are added as soon as they are known.

Please note that only a few live tracks are not mentioned on the list. All known studio recordings and remixes by The Prodigy for other artists are listed. Therefore, if you have an unlisted studio recording of a track, which you believe is by The Prodigy, it is not a track by The Prodigy. If you have a live recording of an unlisted track, which you believe is by The Prodigy, then you should hear either Maxim or Keith Flint on vocals. If the specific live recording has no vocals, the chance is not very big that it is a track by The Prodigy, but please post a sound sample and we will be glad to help you identify the track if it is by The Prodigy.

Wednesday, 18th of March
There are currently a few tracks missing from the list, such as Guns. Due to sickness I have not been able to properly update the list in the last months. It will be updated soon though.

Known fakes
Below a list of all known fake tracks and releases in random order. This section is updated on a regular basis. If you have any fake tracks to add, please send me a Private Message.

Metallica feat. Prodigy - For Whom The Bell Tolls
On the soundtrack to the movie Spawn, there is a collaboration between Metallica and DJ Spooky which is called For Whom The Bell Tolls (The Irony Of It All). On the same soundtrack there is a collaboration between The Prodigy and Tom Morello which is called One Man Army. These two artists have been mixed up, which led to the rumour that The Prodigy had collaborated with Metallica on a track called For Whom The Bell Tolls.

Prodigy - Mozart Master Mix
At the end of 1997, a CD was released which was called Mozart Master Mix. It contained various classical work, but in a more modern form. On this CD is a track by Gregg Pagani called Prodigy Groove (Mozart Master Mix). The tracktitle got mistakenly split by some into Prodigy - Mozart Master Mix.

Prodigy - Unbelievable
Unbelievable is actually a track by Sound Corp called Dream Finder.

Prodigy - Panic
In 1997 Goon released an album called Mental Reflex, which somewhat resembled the style of The Prodigy. On this album was a track called Panic, which later also got released as a single. Back in the days of EN Radio*, Kristian Kotta played this track on the show he hosted and some people mistakenly took it for a track by The Prodigy.
*Earthbound Network

The Crystal Method feat. Prodigy - Sidewinder
This track is actually Crystal Prodigy by Sidewinder. There is also a track by The Crystal Method which is called Sidewinder. Both tracks do not feature The Prodigy.

Prodigy - The Castbreeder
Near the end of 1998, what appeared to be a new album by The Prodigy was found on the Russian market. Although it was made to look like a proper release, if you looked closer you could easily see that this was in fact a cheap bootleg. As for the music on this bootleg, none of the tracks found on this release are by The Prodigy. Most tracks on this release are instead by Junkie XL and a few tracks are by Lunatic Calm.

Below the full, fake tracklisting as printed on the backsleeve of The Castbreeder.

01 Castbreeder (Single Version)
02 Collapse
03 144
04 Many, Many, People (Live At Noorderslag)
05 Castl Road
06 Fuzz Fucking
07 Disco To Face
08 Bungalow's Island
09 Aluminium Jazz
10 Abnormal Bunx
11 Junky's Cinder

The Prodigy - La Una Programme
This is not a track by The Prodigy. It is actually a track named UNA by Program 2, which was released back in 1993.

Prodigy feat. 3D - No Souvenirs (UNKLE Remix)
December 2002, UNKLE released a promotional box set called Do Androids Dream Of Electric Beats which contained three DJ mixed CD's titled Shin, Gi and Tai. No tracklisting was given out with these promotional copies, so people had to figure out the tracklisting by themselves. Some believed that one of the tracks on the Tai disc was the remix which UNKLE did of No Souvenirs by The Prodigy together with Rob "3D" DelNaja of Massive Attack. The track in question was in fact I Can't Comprehend by Skelf feat. Forme. UNKLE did do a remix of No Souvenirs, but this remix never got released, just like No Souvenirs itself never got released.

The Prodigy - Popcorn
This track is actually Popcorn by Caustic Window, one of the aliases of Aphex Twin, and was released on the Joyrex J4 EP back in 1992. This track is a remix of Popcorn by Hot Butter.

Prodigy - The Fat Mixes
This bootleg was released not long after the release of The Fat Of The Land and is an obvious fake. The mixes are not remixed by the artists mentioned. All remixes are homemade and contain samples of the artist who has supposedly remixed the specific tracks. This bootleg came in a digipak and was later released in a normal jewelcase, with different sleeves and under a different name; The Fat Of The Mix.

Below the full, fake tracklisting as printed on the backsleeve of The Fat Mixes.

01 Smack My Bitch Up (Snack'O'Smack - Mix)
02 Diesel Power (Snake Break - Mix)
03 Breathe (Like An APHEX TWIN - Mix)
04 Funky Shit (Sweep Mix)
05 Serial Killer (Bloodsport - MIX)
06 Mindfields (Circles - Mix)
07 Narayan (Goa Tribe - Mix)
08 Firestarter (Roof-On-Fire-Mix)
09 Climbatize (Trigger Mountain Mix)
10 Fuel My Fire (M.B. CEE-MIX)
11 Firestarter (Cold-Cut & Stop-Mix)
12 Breathe (Dub Nize Mix)

Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up (Fatboy Slim Remix)
Back in 1997 Fatboy Slim did a DJ mix for The Breezeblock on Radio 1. During this DJ set he mixed in Smack My Bitch Up; it was nothing more than a simply crossfade. Someone of Earthbound Network recorded the show and cut out Smack My Bitch Up from it and named it Smack My Bitch Up (Fatboy Slim Remix). This led some people to believe that this was an actual remix, official even, whereas it's simply just a track which Fatboy Slim played in his set.

Speaker Junkies - Blow Yo Mind (Prodigy Remix)
Beatport is a web site where upcoming artists can promote and sell their music. One of these upcoming artists listed on Beatport are the Speaker Junkies. They have a track listed at Beatport named Blow Yo Mind, from the album Tekno Slut. Written behind the title of this track is "Prodigy Remix" and under the section Remixer it is written "The Prodigy". The Prodigy have not done a remix for the Speaker Junkies however. The Speaker Junkies named this track this way for the simple reason that they believe that it will sell more and promote their music better if they claimed that The Prodigy would have remixed their track Blow Yo Mind.

The Prodigy - Herran
This tracks is an obvious fake. It's an unofficial mix of various artists and tracks and contains elements of Elektrobank (Dust Brothers Remix) by The Chemical Brothers, Acid 8000 by Fatboy Slim and Voodoo People (Dust Brothers Remix) by The Prodigy.

Orbital - Halcyon (Prodigy Remix)
The Prodigy have never done a remix for any track by Orbital.

The Prodigy - Thorns
Fake track posted on a fan created Prodigy MySpace page. Thorns is not a track or remix by The Prodigy.

The Prodigy - Sensible Golf
The music which is featured on a crack for the demo version of the Amiga game Sensible Golf is said to be by written The Prodigy, back in 1994. This is however not the case. The supplier of this crack is a group calling themselves "Prodigy UK". This made some to believe that the music would be by The Prodigy.

They just ask the question... they don't look for answers on existing topics.

It's funny... most of the people that hit fakes in the first place are people who use limewire or generally pirate their music. I had a friend that had just got into Aphex, pulled all he could find off limewire. 75% of stuff on his ipod was fake!

BoC is hilarious for that, if you ever heard: play by numbers ep, hooper bay ep, lavender trapezoids, or catalog 3 they are all 100% fake and all originated in soulskeek/limewire

I've found some tracks named: Prodigy - Techno Retro 1, Prodigy - Techno Retro 2 & Prodigy - Techno Retro 3.
I can't find anything about it on the net so Arie or anyone else who knows these tracks and know if they're fake please tell me!!!
I don't think these tracks are real but they do sound like prodigy...
Also found Prodigy - Need For Speed, if you guys want me to post these tracks anywhere just say it.
If these are not Prodigy tracks I want to know who made them, maybe some of you recognize it.
