TOPIC: Your views on Invaders Must Die

Your views on Invaders Must Die 4 years, 3 months ago #26529

Today it got delivered at the shop I work in so I could buy Invaders Must Die a few days before its official release. I got the 12" double LP and the boxset which includes de album with dvd and the Lost Beats EP. What a F#cking great album. The Prodigy is back in Full effect.

Invaders Must Die - 'We are The Prodigy' we know this track from late november as a free download but this extended version is way better. It's a great opener for the album with the hard beats.

Omen - The first single of the album, a bit different than the single version which I like a bit better. Omen holds the first signs of the old school 90s rave sound which got me into the Prodigy in the first place.

Thunder - With it pulsating beats can't wait to hear the one live. The vocal sample seems to reach back to Maxims origin as reggea soundsystem MC

Colours - Liam goes freaky on the keys. In my opion the least track on the album. And the beat is almost the same as Mephis Belle

Take me to the Hospital - This track is great. The ambulance sirens, the dirty synth sounds. I love the 'Rip up the soundsystem' sample.

Warriors dance - I haven't heard this one live (I don't count the dvd version) which seems to be a fan favourite already. Again the old school rave sounds which remains me of 'Wind it up'. The build-up 3 minutes in is great.

Run with the wolves - Dave Grohl on drums! this is a dirty electronic rock 'n roll stamper. It's the only track which reminds me of the fierceness of the Fat of the land

Omen reprise - The 'Narayan' or 'Medusa's path' of Invaders must die. A bit of a resting point on the album. Just a bit though.

Worlds on fire - Awesome track. Maxim on vocals as fierce as we heard him on Poison. The 'Your love' like piano 1,5 minutes in is great.

Piranha - Liam tries to make his keys as corky and scary as possible. Again with the 'Experience' like sounds and Maxim and Keef on the vocals.

Stand up - the closer of the album is something completly different than we ever have heard from the Prodigy. It's sounds very English from a not wel known 80s band. It reminded me of what Liam brought us on his Back to mine compilation.

Great album. Probably my favourite as a whole. Very unlike AONA and TFOTL and MFTJG but very Prodigy back to their old school rave roots. Warriors Dance, Omen and Thunder make my top 3 but Worlds on fire and Take me to the hospital nubble at those spots. I love al the bits that reminds me of why a I became a Prodigy fan in 1992.
The Lost Beats EP completes the IMD sessions. It is pretty clear why those track didn't go on the album. The album is a whole, tracks from the EP don't fit in there. Only the Big gundown, which features in the liveshow as 'Commanche' could have been on it but would be the odd one out.
Invaders must die is a great album which will be loved by al the Prodigy fans but will also atracked new fans who were disapointed by AONO. Although IMD is complete it only lasts 45 minutes. A live show is longer. So expect to hear a lot of tracks at the upcoming gigs. I now I will.

'Hold the beat. Stop the beat. Drop the beat!'

I think the single version of Omen is better is better because it has a slightly better drum pattern.

Its like the oposite of Spitfire, where the album drumbeat version was way better than the single.

Will try and post a track by track breakdown when I can,
but for now; I'll just say, it is the strongest Album I have heard from the collection.

Not saying it's the 'best', (as they are all good for their own reasons),
but musically, it is the strongest, the best produced and most inventive Album yet.

love the album, but bitterely dissapointed with the lost beats ep - hardly worth an extra £35 for the 5 7" vinyls, stickers and stencils (wtf) - and a four tracker which three of them I really don't think I'll bother even importing to my mp3 player. Big Gundown aka Commanche is wicked. No dead ken or whatever it's got renamed to though which is the real sucker punch for me, hoping it was one of the renamed tracks although obviously it sounds wicked with maxim live anyway so best keep it LIVE I spose. Wasn't there a track called Disko Punks on the lost beats ep, now been renamed to Wild West or is this another track?

I swear I read in an interview Liam said Dead Ken will definetely be on the lost beats ep, surely it can't be black smoke which has Kieron Pepper courtest of DEAD KIDS (says on the credits) re-done?

10/10 for the album
6/10 for the boxset I hate to say - but I'm being honest. As much as I love the Prodigy this was slightly dissapointing even for me. No B-S, milked it.

INVADERS - Liked this from the moment I heard it. I love the 'We are the prodigy!'
OMEN - Best tune since firestarter. Absolutely awesome
THUNDER - I love the opening and the middle but not my favourite
COLOURS - Originally I thought this was crap but having played it over and over again I LOVE IT!
TMTTH - This will be amazing live. A bit annoying but catchy
WARRIOR DANCE - TUNE!!!!!!!!! I like the womens voice
RWTW - Love the lyrics, decent tune. A bit too rock for the prodigy!
OMEN REPRISE - Nice interlude
WOF - Was far better when not cut up but still 1 bloody awesome tune!
PIRANHA - WTF IS THIS!? Not my fave
STAND UP - I actually really like this!

Overall - Best album of 21st century and the 2nd best from prodge.

I prefered the Omen Single drum beat with that 'tsiki tsiki' hat on the background. Well, good that I bought the Omen Single that has Omen (Extended), its almost like the album version...same lenght and shit.

Omen Reprise would be fucking sweet with like 2 mins longer and beats starting from 2:14 where it ends on the album now. well, its fucking sweet even without beats

OK, here goes:

Invaders Must Die - Heard it as soon as the download came out. I was really scared the whole album would sound like this.
At first I thought that Liam had just got lazy. It's growing on me, but when you know what Liam is
capable of I still find this a little amateurish (for liam you understand). OK as an intro I guess.

Omen - Wow, when Prodigy did their Radio 1 takeover I had this on my MP3 and could not stop listening to it.
I remember it as one of my favourites when I saw them (twice ) at Brixton Academy in December.
Brilliant and incredibly rough.... until you hear some of the other beauties on this album.

Thunder - Phenomenal. That's all I have to say.

Colours - Grrrrr. Why do we have these horrible tracks for the sake of Keef? Just shut up and be a dancer please.
At least there's something for the people who started liking the Prodigy because of "Fat Of The Land."

Take Me To The Hospital - I can't believe how amazing this choon is. My favourite on here by far. In my top 5 of all time.

Warrior's Dance - Fantastic. Loved this up at Brixton. Definately one for the old skool fans.

Run With The Wolves - Hmm, a bit better than "Colours", but see my comments for that anyway.

Omen Reprise - Quality, nice little ambient-esque pause with some beautiful noises, riff and bassline. Lush!

World's On Fire - Wicked live and transfers to album quite nicely. Good track, but some a lot better on here.

Piranha - Somewhere between "Colours" and "Run With The Wolves."

Stand Up - Ha, loved this. Fatboy Slim (twat) made a career out of writing this kinda stuff, and here comes Liam to
do it better. Fantastic way to end the album (but I am a 303-phile). 3-kilos anyone?

A lovely thank you to Mr. W 30, James Jupiter the 8th, Mrs. 303, Mr. 909, and especially Monsieur Akai 1100 (The Earthbound Crew)

Your views on Invaders Must Die 4 years, 2 months ago #26890

Doh, forgot the Lost beats bits

All good, especially "The Big Gun Down." Wouldn't sound out of place in an Andy C set. This is the genius of Liam, music that creates it's own ideom and destroys that of others that try to come near it.
If the Chemical Brothers try to copy Liams style in this album (as they often do) I will be very non-plussed.

Invaders Must Die - i have no idea why people keep knocking this, i think its a brilliant track, works really well live, and what a brilliant title for the album and for the track. that said, i do prefer the re-amped version.

Omen - i think its a really cool tune, tears the place apart live. however, it has definately become overplayed.

Thunder - an absolute beast of a track, second best on the record, should have been a single instead of omen. pity its not played live

Colours - not a fan of this song at all, that said it isnt as bad as piranha. dont like the vocals at all, not a big fan of the beats. the part at about 2:25 where the main beat and keyboards stops is pretty cool though, other then that a pretty poor song

Take Me To The Hospital - best tune on the album. sick beats, good vocals, and absolutely destroys the place at a gig!i love the second bit of "welcome to the scene of the crash!" after the cool electro squeals.

Warrior's Dance - an absolutely brilliant tune. love the way it starts off, just getting louder and louder. best bit is at 2:55 where the cool beats kick in, to be followed by the main sounds. brilliant live

Run With The Wolves - a brilliant track, didnt like it at first but i sure do now!probably my favourite track with keiths vocals, crowd goes mental for this one live.

Omen Reprise - a really cool little tune, a breather between two intense songs. reminds me of old skool tracks such as skylined and weather experience, works brilliant as an into to invaders must die live

World's On Fire - an absolutely class tune. to be honest, i found it a bit repititive at the start, but that was before i heard it live. probably the most insane tune of the gigs i was at, really gets the crowd going, brilliant opener as well

Piranha - shit. utter filler, why have this on the album instead of mescaline or the big gundown?

Stand Up - really cool tune to end the album, love the way this is played on the pa after gigs. sort of gives you a warm feeling inside

IMD-Better than you all say.
Omen-I loved it but I heard it to much.
Thunder-Love the ultra bassy part but don't like the rest.
Colours-Just plain crap Dead Ken Beats or Heatwave would have done much better.
TMTTH-Except for the Keith's vocals it's a beast track.
WD-Really good track but the first version played in the Rainbow Warhouse in 08 is better.
RWTW-Better than colours and Piranha but ain't that great.
Omen(reprise)-Good filler in my opinion.
WOF-Best track on the album with beast beats and good vocals by Maxim.
Piranha-Happy they don't play this live as it's terrible.
Stand Up-Didn't like it at first but learnt to appricate it(along with Liam's early work)and It's good to listen to on the way home from school.
