For me, The Fat Of The Land will always be the definitive album from them
And that's coming from someone who started listening to them in '94 and already a fan of Experience & Jilted
I don't know how anyone can diss FotL, it still holds up to this day and hits just as hard as today's releases
It just got very popular and overplayed, but that's still no reason to knock
That was the era when they were on top of their game and I can listen to that album straight through any day where I tend to skip tracks on some of the other albums
Plus you got amazing b-sides like Molotov Bitch, One/No Man Army, The Trick, Voodoo Beats...
Invaders Must Die reminds me of FotL meets Experience
To be honest, I don't know how anyone can hate on it.
If you don't like Serial Thrilla or Fuel My Fire, that's fine...
But saying that they are the worst tunes that you've ever heard? Come on, man... that's a bit overboard.
AONO is 50% good and 50% filler... and Serial Thrilla and Fuel My Fire piss all over the 50% of filler that AONO is made up of. Love Girls and Get Up Get Off. If it was the '05 version of Spitfire and Their Law mix of Under My Wheels and The Way It Is instead of the album versions, it would have helped. Didn't like Memphis Bells or Phoenix really. Shoot Down was overworked and ruined an already good track. I even liked the rough mix Noel played than what was on the album. But halfway through AONO, it falls apart. Back To School, Razor, and Warning would have made it a better album with their inclusion. I think Liam rushed it out in the end because of already delaying it after scrapping the original AONO. He should waited and tested it a bit live first before releasing. Just watch that Athens video when they first played after its release and you see and feel how it fell flat with the crowd. The tracks just didn't have that Prodigy energy yet. With a little more work it would have been great. I would like to see Girls and Wake Up Call back in the set.
Plus I was a fan of Baby's Got A Temper and didn't feel it was FotL Pt. II or whatever Liam said. Especially the instrumental where you get to hear all the fine details of the tune.
And even though Fat Of The Land is my favorite album from them, I would like to see a more varied live track list that's not just their singles. I can do without hearing SMBU, Firestarter, or Breathe live again. Try out some other tracks once in a while like Funky Shit, Mindfields, One Man Army, and bring back Voodoo Beats over current Voodoo People mix.
I like all the tracks from fotl but jilted is just better for me. That Narcotic suite is just priceless, its different and original and still sounds like prodge, it still has that attitude. But the hole album is awesome with great variety of music. Its jilted as #1 for me with fotl in a close #2.
