I personaly HATE, and I mean HATE, this album! It's not because it's different or "not Prodigy"! It's just terrible in general, regardless of who has made it!

The songs are boring and it sounds like an amateure has made it at home on his computer. "Under My Wheels" and "Spitfire" are the only tracks that sounds remotely like Prodigy, but they sound "half-finished". It's only one music-line going over and over again and to buy some time, he throws in some lame sounds over this music-line... Ingenious!

"Girls" is just an attempt to make a cool 80's-track, but it just sounds ridicolous! Robot-voices died out with Styx and the "Mr. Roboto" track and it does not sound cool at all in year 2004, even if it is a Prodigy-track! The man behind "Experience", "Jilted" and "Fat of The Land" should know this!

"Medusas Path" has a cool beat and it could have been one of the best tracks on the album, but, again... It sounds "un-finished" and is messed up with lame noises... "Action Radar" is by far the worst! Computer games from the early 90's had cooler and better scores than this!

"Hotride" is the only "finished" track on this album! It rocks all the way and you "get" the song and feel like listening to it all the way through. And that is what The Prodigy is all about: Grabbing you by the balls from the first second and don't letting you go until the song is finished!

Then, almost at the end, we have "The way it". What on earth is this? Ripping a part of "Thriller" by Michael Jackson and using it in a song with no intention or imagination to use the rip to make a Prodigy-song. Nope, as usual... same old line over and over with noises to buy the track some time...

The rest of the songs are so boring and pointless that they are really not worth mentioning... "Get Up, Get Lost"? Yes, that would be a good idea!

This album would have worked better as a maxi-single, instead of this thin, pointless pit of noise and boring bass & drum-lines... It just makes the listener sit and wait for the nerve and explotion, wich almost every Prodigy-track contains, that just makes you bounch of the wall with all the juicy, musical details that only Liam Howlett is able to create, but... that never happens.

"Spitfire" gives you false hope at the get-go, but get you grounded just as fast as you startet to take off! At the end, I feel like I've been listening to a demo-tape, a sneak-peak of the very first layout from the process of making the 4th Prodigy-album.

For heavens sake, Liam! You had eight years! Is this what we have been waiting for? A "master-piece" of disturbing noises? If you had a creative block and could not write anything: YOU SHUOLD HAVE TAKEN ANOTHER EIGHT YEARS OFF! That I would understand, but this album: I do not!

My God, how the mighty has fallen!

Any other/different opinions?

Yes, use the Search function There are already plenty of topics regarding AONO. No need to create another one. Where were you two and a half years ago to discuss AONO? Instead of sticking to the past, look to the future or at least to more recent material such as TLTS

Even though this topic has been covered many times over, I have to defend AONO, as I like it, especially live tracks from this album sound great.

and I don't think liam staying away for another 7 years as you put it would have been quite right somehow

Different it is yes, but progress is good. The Prodigy might not be where they are today if they stuck to the "Experience" era without progressing to MFTJG and TFOTL.

Every artist has its highs and lows. Liam has said several times that the BGAT period (the period before Aono) was a very difficult one, cause the band almost collapsed and Aono just had to happen for the band to survive. Like a lot, i thought wtf? at the first time i listened to the album too, but after 2 years it's like any other Prodigy record i have - i love it. The fact alone that they've come this far is worth some respect and the succes is thanks to the band going forward all the time and that's what Aono is.

I do agree with LiamH...I can't stand one fuckin minute of that album.

Having said that though, I did not lose any respect for the band.

Even if they never release anything good..ever again....we still have jilted and experience to cuddle up to.
Give them some credit like...one bad album is not enough to turn your back on a band.

Liam will progress from AONO in the same way he progressed from experience. AONO is just the start of the 21st century prodigy era.

It's my least favourite album but imho in no means "bad". It's got some real energy that could only really be put across with Liam Howlett.

Just to clear up a few things:

First off all, I tried the "search" button and I did not get up any topics where people here have discussed this album. Maybe I did not search far enough back in time, but as this is my first week as member on this forum, I would like to use the oportunity to listen to "todays fans" opinions and also try to "piss off" a couple of people in here, just to see the reaction, to make some debates and to express my anger over the album that made me stop listening to The Prodigy for several years. The waiting periode after TFOTL was long and I almost gave up the hope of a new album. When it finally came out, I totally lost interest for good! I am now trying to pick up that interest again and therefor found it logical to burst out my anger of AONO and move on!

As I have mentioned, I have not updated myself on The Prodigy for several years. I know very little of their newest releases, so feel free to update me. For example: I have NO idea what TLTS stands for!

As for respect for Liam after AONO, I had enourmes respect for him based on the three first albums, but in SEVEN years you sort of move on and start to listen to other music. When AONO was released in the middle of all the other bands I was listening to, it more or less just pissed me off and passed me by. It's not about loosing respect... It's moore about sustaining the respect! After so many years, you have to do good if you want to pick up where you left of with your fans!

Many users in here, says that AONO have some of the best Prodigy-tracks ever and that, for example, Action Radar is the best track etc. To me, this is an enigma! Compared to what The Prodigy have released before, this is a discrase when I think of bough the quality and the drive that the music from Liam used to represent! Listen to "Smack my bitch up", "No good", "Out of space", "Their law" etc. and still claim that "Action Radar" is one of their best tracks!

As for me making a better album than AONO, as one person mentioned in "Worst prodigy track and re-mix"-post regarding my post about the "Action Radar"-track, my answer is: I don't have to! The reason I bring this up in this post, is to point out why I think AONO is of rather low quality. I have used bough tracker programs and Reason for several years and by doing so, you come across a lot of tracks that other people have made at home. I can promise you that there is a lot of amateures out there that don't have the slightest clue of what they are doing when they try to make a song, simply beacuse they don't know how to use the programs. Their "songs" sound like many of the tracks on AONO! In other words, AONO is not very impressive! When Liam Howlett, the man behind Experience, MFTJG and TFOTL, is supposed to be the man behind the songs on AONO, I can only start to wonder if this album was ment as a joke!

What many of you need to understand, is that I have been a HUGE fan since "Out of Space" was released as a single and I have loved this band for almost 10 years, until BGOAT was released. I had MANY friends that also loved The Prodigy and now there is only me left that still has some interest in following them into the future. AONO destroyed a lot for The Prodigy and it costed them MANY fans! AONO in complacency with all the years that has past since TFOTL, is enough to see and understand why The Prodigy have a lot of doubts from the fans that loved them in the 90's.

But... I will start to look forward and I can't wait to hear the new album. On the other hand, if it sounds remotely like AONO, I will stop looking forward and instead start to look backwards again... from 1997 and back!

TLTS stands for 'Their Law: The Singles 1990 - 2005'. That's the name of the best of album they released in 2005. They also released a DVD with the same name and it features all their videos, a live gig @ Brixton '97 + bonus material. http://www.theprodigy.nl/files/albums/albums.php

Sure 'Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned' is not their greatest work if you ask me, but i def don't think it's as crap as you described. When it first came out, this forum had a section called "New Album" for people to discuss Aono and i can tell you, you're far not the only one saying Aono is crap. If you don't like it, fine, it's your opinion. As for me, i can't wait to see where they're going now.

I quite understand LiamH where you are coming from. I still recognise AONO as a very good album, not as good as the other 3 but still very good.
I suppose it's like all music it depends how it makes you feel when you listen to it, you either love it, or hate it. Or in a lot of cases with AONO learn to love it.

I imagine the 7 year gap did not do The Prodigy any favours as you said a lot of fans probably moved on.
Thank fuck for the '05 tour...this can only have built up intrest and let everyone know they were still around kicking up shit.

Imo AONO is Liam taking reason to the limits and producing the best album that anyone could ever possibly make in reason. I'm sure if he'd used other software it would have been better.

So basically i'm saying AONO is a reason showcase.
