for me.. the old shows were far superior. but thats just my humble opinion lads.
mainly for 2 reasons..the laptops and the vocals.

my heart breaks a little seeing master H with his face lit up behind a macbook. before the laptops the set was constantly changing and proper live. with the laptops and drummer they have created a spectacle indeed and it is worthy of serious applause. and in fairness..where else could they have gone with it?

however for me it was all about going to their gigs & festivals in ireland 93 94 95 96 & 97... and watching all the unsuspecting faces of the other people drop to the floor in disbelief at what they were seeing.. (this was in a time when they did not have a big name at rock festivals like they do now)
some geeky skinny 23 yr old hiding behind a cage of synths & spikes absolutely tearing the place to shreds... the whole stage practically capsizing back at feile 95 in cork during poison. oh the tears rush down my face. plus 2 genuinely psychopatic frontmen that could not possibly have been sober while roaring and frothing at the mouth at people. and of course a dancer that was bigger and taller than the stages he was dancing on.

i velieve the drugs honestly did have a lot to answer for back in those days . but of course we don't want them taking that shit in these days.. family men with beatiful wives and beautiful kids etc.
since 2000 i have been one of the "ah the new shows don't measure up" types.. but in retrospect.. where else could they have gone with it? and they still roam the land surprising audiences today. they are the invincible and the original. nothing ever came close. and ever will.

I saw three shows in Norway in the 90s, and two on the Invaders cycle. The Invaders European club tour gig at Sentrum Scene, Oslo, was by far the best one I've seen, but the one at Oslo Spectrum (also the Invaders cycle) was by far the least favorable. Of the ones in the 90s, the gig at Kalvøya, on the day before the release of FOTL, was the best one, by far the best out-doors gig I've ever seen, maybe with exception of Pink Floyd (Valle Hovin -94) and Slipknot (Download -09).

I might have such fond memories of the Kalvøya gig since that was the first big festival I went to, and I might not like the Spectrum -09 one so much ´cause of the free age limit (The bull that forgot he was once a little calf?) %) And I've always loved indoors (pref more intimite) concerts, regardless of genre.

So to put it short: outdoors and/or stadium gigs: 90s best, club gigs, present best. (I didn't see the Milton Keynes gig live, but I've seen the DVD tons of times. Seems like a candidate to best gig ever, tho)

So to put it even shorter: very hard to tell.
