TOPIC: Prodigy live

Prodigy live 7 years ago #2626

I have noticed that the setlist for the last many liveshows has been almost identical. The last year, it seems like only (or less than) one fourth of the setlist has changed. An interviewer recently asked Liam about the setlists, and Liam was defending the setlist with saying that there is always small changes, so that no show is identical.

I know he changes the order of the tracks and a fill or two every once in a while, but if i had to be provoking, i would say thats just a way to cover up lazyness or what ever reason he has for keep playing the same tracks over and over again.
I think the setlists are becoming quite boring to be honest. Last year i went to see them live at the Skanderborg Festival (and it rocked. No question about that). A little more than a month later they visited Denmark again, but i didnt go because i felt it was a waste of money, to hear the exact same tracks once again. Sure the show changes, but i do not feel its worth all that money, compared to if for example half the tracks had been changed. And if their way of planing live shows doesnt change, i bet that if they come to Denmark again this year, atleast 3/4th of the setlist will be the same as last year.
Ofcourse people who has not seen the prodigy before will die to experience firestarter performed live, but i really miss some innovation to please the fan who has been to more than one gig. And I can imagine that to be a considerable amount of people.

I predict the next many setlists to contain the following tracks:
Wake the fuck up
Their law
Warning
Firestarter
Spitfire
Back to school
Breathe
Smack my bitch up
Poison
Out of space

There is plenty of other great tunes than this, that will be suitable live.

My opinion is a litte more positive. I mean they've done live shows for 15 years, i'm sure there are some moments when the band is kinda fed up with it and could just call it a day. But they're still rocking the stages all over the world, writing new music, i mean what else could we want? Of course they could change the setlists more often as they have so many tracks to use, but that's the least of the problems. I don't see they're shows very often, actually i've been to one only, but i've seen many gigs (on my pc) and i must say they all are full of energy and awesome live Prodigy vibe.

So i voted for 'i don't bother' or smth that, cause first i would like to enjoy more shows and then maybe start thinking about it. I'm sure that people who see prodigy ~2 times a year would like a variety, but as for me, i'm super-hyper-happy to just be on their gig!

yep, make it longer that'd be great!

or if not then it would be good to change the set list, that way 'fans' who go to more than one event will enjoy even more!

Those who havent seen prodigy before will still like it even though the do not play all the obvious tracks. Imo it doesnt make much sense to visit a country as small as Denmark twice, in not much more than a month, and then play an identical setlist.

A longer gig would be defo for me and a few more tracks from previous albums but i wonder is it difficult for the band to perform older tracks with Leeroy now gone.......? Would Funky shit or Mindfields etc work with just Flinty and Maxim? Id love a bit more vareity in the set.

Definately longer sets would be a better plan, no warm-ups, just get to the venue, and only hear the prodigy for about 5-6 hrs, sounds good to me.

"Liam, there's someone on the phone for ya"
"Fucks sake, i'm trying to write this fucking tune man"

I'D be quite happy hearing the same stuff live for ever, at the end of the day I keep playing the stuff day in day out 365 days a year. I've seen them live about 5 times now and heard alot of the same tracks played out and I still get goose bumps! Its such an occasion for me to go see them live that Liam could loop his own farts and I would still buzz off it. I'll tell you one thing as well , when I went to see them at the National indoor Arena in birmingham and they open with Break and Enter ..... I cried with happiness and looked a tit infront of my fiancee .

Compared to a lot of live bands The Prodigy change their set list a lot in my view. They even play improvised mixes of tracks. Liam made a point of that a while back!

I have a question bout Voodoo People:
During the new bit added to the 05 mix live, Keith sings "It's in your eyes, baby!". What does Maxim say after that? Still haven't figured that out. TIA

improvised tracks == great stuff! agreed

but

other bands changing their setlist fever or as few times as prodigy, doesnt make prodigy better... only makes them just as lazy

I see that a lot of you voted "no", because you just wish that prodigy had a longer set or played at your place more often. But in my opinion thats a bit irrelevant to this. This poll isnt about what is most important to be "improved".
I know the setlist aint as big a problem for some people, compared to being able of just going to a gig, but a more fresh setlist will still be an improvement, regartless of how many or few gigs they play.
