TOPIC: The Prodigy - Greatest dance act of ALL time!

Re: The Prodigy - Greatest dance act of ALL time! 1 year, 3 months ago #61328

I voted for the boys.
However (I seem to remember saying this about this time last year) if it had been "Electronic Act" the it would have to be Kraftwerk. No question.

A lovely thank you to Mr. W 30, James Jupiter the 8th, Mrs. 303, Mr. 909, and especially Monsieur Akai 1100 (The Earthbound Crew)

Well what does greatest mean in this context? The ones that invented the genre (in this case wayne is right) or the ones that had most success creating new and inovating tunes (prodigy)?

Its unfair to say that the title of greatest dance/electronic act should go to the act that invented the genre, when the computer was first created, should that be given the title of best computer or the first phone given the title of best phone...no because they have grown, evolved and changed just like the electronic genre, credit should not be given to kraftwerk for EVERYTHING that has happened in electronic music they are important to electronic music same as abba or the beatles are to pop music, but they aren't the be all and end all of the genre, if they hadn't of created electronica, somebody else would of. .. This is my personal opinion

Electronic act? I would give to Jean Michel Jarre.

I'm not saying Kraftwerk should get it because they pioneered the sounds, that would be absurd.
Kraftwerk have been going for years, had huge success, spawned most of what we listen to today and are still going (albeit with 1 original member now).
They are electronic music.

pioneers vs technics . Kraftwerk the pioneers, everyone else copy or create new techniques based on the electronic manipulation of sound they developed. To me Liam is a pioneer, there are very few and its a case of re inventing the musical wheel when I hear Jilted it's still better than anything now because its original and has been worked on and specially refined so much. Most people don't have a clue the work that went into it. I only know from reading electronic punks.

Anyone heard of Daphne Oram? She did some made stuff with electonic sounds back in the 60s, quite interesting
