TOPIC: 90's vs today's production

90's vs today's production 1 year, 6 months ago #60592

noticed that alot of people wish that liam ditched the laptops and went back to using 100% analog and hardware.

i thought id start this thread to view our opinions and to compare the change in production of the prodigys music. Alot of people have said that the production on imd is lazy, and that the tunes were better written when liam wasnt using laptops, i cant see how laptops could effect the writting process my self. Maybe in the ninties cause technology was less advanced that not just liam everyone who used it had to work harder to get what they wanted.

So what are you views and opinions on the overall pruduction on the trax and how there written today compared to in the ninties very early 00's.

I posted a long post about this before, and my view was basically 'it's the carpenter, not the tools'. Those were probably someone else' words, but it's spot on.
I understand that the process is different, but everyone has the same tools; it's not like Liam is the only person with a laptop, and due to the ease of things it just lazy..everyone has them, and thus everyone is competing on the same levels.

theres an undeniable loss of craft as the albums progress in terms of the creativity on display

in terms of production quality, gotta say IMD is pretty flat, next to other artists

would love to see liam really push production in the new albums, really be ambitious on that front

I've always been a fan of the "Old" prodigy, love the raw beats, obvious sampling and rhythms that realy makes you want to move. Im not to concerned about "how" he makes anything, but "what".
On IMD think about what tunes became big new hits for old and new fans, like "Take me to the Hospital" and "Omen", give us more of that! And check back with the old stuff to create new, like "Everybody in the place", "Fire" or even "Ruff in the jungle". Like Awol to me is just pointless, its a punk/rock song with beats on it.
Prodigy to me, and Im shure to millions of fans, are the hard hitting beats, hypnotising instrumentals and most of all the fact that its electronic! How it gets from Liams head and out my speakers, is not important.

Jilted

Three minute 'chart' tracks are for those with ADD. Not the way to go. Need the epicness back. Builds and layers.

Don't really care how it's done.

If I'm not mistaken Liam used Cubase on Jilted. It doesn't matter what technology you use, it's all about creativity!

Technology has come along with since the late 80's/early 90's.With Master H he seem best and happy with a laptop to get the right mix of beats and tunes over into the albums. He needs to be creative to keep the band flying the flag and to keep us fans happy.
