When and how you started listening to The Prodigy? 7 years ago #3064

What got you into the band? Which track got you into the band? etc.
Thought to start this thread again.

I got into The Prodigy about 4 or 5 years ago. I's a little peculiar how i got into them. I went to the movies to watch "Charlies Angels II: Full Thottle". The movie itself wasn't anything special, but the soundtracks in it got my attention. First i recognized Firestarter which i had heard before, but when i heard Breathe i was really blown away. I was mumbling the beat and the chorus for many days after the movie so i let my friend burn me a copy of Fotl and after that i started buying all the albums and here i am now.

Back in 1992 I was very much into breakbeat driven rave music. I had a tape on which there was this great tune, which had this wicked piano line. I kept playing this tune over and over. It was G-Force (Energy Flow) and the artist was The Prodigy. Looking through some tapes I noticed that I had another track by this group The Prodigy; Android blew me away, just like G-Force (Energy Flow) did and my passion for the band started. I can't imagine life without this music anymore

I got into the band in the summer of 1994 when a school exchange took me to Wakefield, West Yorkshire. One day, while I was watching MTV, I came across "No Good" which blew me away completely. 3 months later I saw the band live for the first time.

When I was small . My brother used to play Charly in the early 90s. I came back in 2004 just before AONO came out from my big gap of not hearing anything from them (nor had anyone else come to think of it). Found this forum after much searching for gig's and stuff and joined up sometime 2004.

I saw charly on the saturday morning chart show, you know the one that used to pretend it was a poorly computer generated jukebox, I saw Charly and was buzzing off it because of the samples from the child safety advert. At the tender age of 11 I was not quite yet up to speed with the double meaning of CHARLIE that being a fluffy dodgily animated Cat and also a fluffy dodgy animating white powder but I soon found out hehe. I went to my local record shop and asked for any future stuff . The guy said there wasn't anything out yet but there was a previous track which hadn't been in the charts called "What evil Lurks" I bought it there and then in its silver and black XL sleeve. Loved W.E.L but Android was the one for me, the rest is History I have every thing released on vinyl including prodigy remixes etc and imports. God Save the Prodigy!

First i thought that Prodigy was a russian punkband cause there were so many pics of Keith having his tongue out and pierced all over in the media. Got the same reaction when i got into the band and found out it was The Prodigy.

I was one of those children sitting in front of the TV, eyes on stalks as the firestarter video was playing on top of the pops. A few weeks later i was round my older brothers (hes been into prodigy since the early rave days, he grew up in braintree as the prodigy were up and coming) and he played the fat of the land. I was like, what is this, he told me it was the prodigy and really i've been in to it ever since. Only over the last few years though ive really started to appreciate music properly.

About the time of that "electronica" craze in the states. I guess it was 1996 or an1997... can't really remember. Saw the Firestarter vid and their performance on that fashion show thing and was like "Whoa! Thats hot!" Breathe is what really did it and solidified it for me. Been hooked since. If that makes me a bandwagon jumper fan, oh well... pfft.

It started for me around 1992, I was going through a tough time. I used to tune in to a local pirate radio station the same time each day, I loved all the electronic hardcore/rave music being played. The thought of some guys my age(ish) mixing this stuff and ripping samples etc gave me such a buzz. Labels like Suburban Bass, Labello Blanco etc oh, and XL of course to name a few. Anyway, I heard this tune in the middle of this dj's set and thought "fuck me" this kicks arse. It was "Music Reach 1234" coming out of my mighty speakers. I loved it. I waited for the dj to name the artist and listened further, he played Jericho and Fire and that was it. I went out the next day and bought my 12"s and never looked back. I got the Experience cassette straight away, and man did i wear it out. I had to replace it as it got bashed that much. There was no other act for me that could compare to The Prodigy. Their music is timeless in a sense as the majority of their tracks could still be played out loud today, not like some of the other artist back then which had a limited life span.
Anyway like Arie says too, I cannot imagine my life without the Prodigy's influence and contribution to music perfection.

Heard Fire and EITP on a rave compilation tape in 92 I think and realised they had something extra special happening that other rave acts didn`t. I was hooked from there.
