Enter long-term worldwide deal with new label


THE PRODIGY are back with their own new label, and this time theyвЂâ„¢re doing it their way. Always fiercely independent, the band have decided to set up their new label Ragged Flag, which will be the platform for their next album release and will subsequently act as an outlet for new talent that they find.

Backed by UK Independent label Cooking Vinyl, the deal will allow the band to continue to enjoy total creative control over all aspects of their music and how it is presented.

Prodigy founder member Liam Howlett commented : вЂËœвЂќWe have been planning this for a while and we are looking forward to building our label up, starting off with the release of the new Prodigy album. We have recorded a few songs already for this next album and they are sounding big and mean!”

“The Prodigy are one of the most relevant bands to todayвЂâ„¢s world,” said Cooking VinylвЂâ„¢s Managing Director Martin Goldschmidt. “It is a real honour to be entrusted with handling affairs for Ragged Flag. This is a fantastic start to 2007, and it is the start of a new era for Cooking Vinyl.”

Says Cooking VinylвЂâ„¢s Product Director Rob Collins, “We canвЂâ„¢t wait to start getting music out there and show everybody just how great this band is.”

The Prodigy are currently in the studio working on the follow up to the number 1 albums “The Fat Of The Land”, “Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned” and “Their Law”.

I'm not quite surprised, seeing that it was rumoured for some time now, but no one ever dared confirming. Glad that we finally for the confirmation. However, how good this will be for us, I don't quite know yet. I personally don't know how this will affect releases and such. For now I'll wait and see what comes out of this. A new label might be a good change, but it might also put pressure on things. It might mean more work for the band too. How will all this affect the quality of the releases, the amount of releases and how will this affect collectors like myself? Time will tell if things will get better than how they are now. Congratulations on the new label! I hope it will be a positive change for you and for us!

First update on this news; there will not be any more releases on PIAS in the Benelux. Cooking Vinyl releases go through a different label. Personally I'm not too happy with this since I've got solid contacts at PIAS.

How did you establish these contacts with PIAS Arie?
friends of friends? or persistance?

As for the change was worried when first discovered possibility of Xl move, so fingers crossed it's for the best.

Friends of friends, that's how I got in contact with them first years ago. Since then I'm in contact with them quite often. Back in 2004 I was asked to do a small speech on AONO at the planned launch party. Unfortunately the party got cancelled, so it never happened ;(

the best way would be through their management Em, not their label.
The management contact info is inside the sleeve of all prodigy records

So they have changed XL Recording for Cooking Vinyl .... hmmm
Maybe it`s good move, but it means that:
1) new album is not ready yet because they have to move all stuff and gears to the new studio ... so we have to wait for it ...

OR

2) The new stuff is ready and they are starting to record it as soon as possible...
